Trip to London

One thing that I love about having the underground at my doorstep is that I can jump on a train and get into London within half an hour. I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy and I do feel restless at times especially as sleepless nights are the norm now and having a 6 year old to run around after can make you feel exhausted by late afternoon.

Although I was feeling quite sluggish after doing the school run I decided to spend my day in London with a nice trip to South Kensington.

I have many favourite places in London but South Kensington has to be in my top five. Aside from having almost every museum in London within a 5 minute radius of one another there are side streets bustling with gorgeous boutiques, ranging from florists and hair salons to cute cafes and quirky eateries.

I feel so energised and stimulated when I'm in an area where culture, art and history combine. The architecture alone is stunningly perfect.

Below are some images I took during my walk.

Autumn Feels

Autumn is such a beautiful season. We have the beautiful autumnal hues shimmering in the trees, pumpkin lattes and cosy autumn evenings. The light windy breeze alongside gorgeous rays of sun that create beautiful silhouettes. It's such an inspirational season.

My top tips for looking good.

Every woman wants to look great, if it is not for herself than maybe it's for her husband/boyfriend. With so many products on the market it is hard to choose what is best for your bag and what is worse for your purse! How many of you walk into Selfridges beauty department and get blown away, with all the luxury goodies being promoted & all the eye-catching advertising? I personally get a head rush, I almost feel that I am in heaven. But where do you go to first? I suggest you do your research and read reviews on products you may be interested in before you buy.

Everyones skin is different, just like everyone lives different lives. And all the different factors you experience day to day has an affect on your skin, like it does on your health. Examples are, stress, climate & diet.
  • If you have oily skin, it does not necessarily mean that you need to use a cream for oily skin. Many people with oily complexions often have very dry skin, which brings out the oil. So if you are using a cream for oily skin and find its not working, try switching to one for dry skin.
  • Invest in a non comedogenic concealer or foundation to use on blemishes or redness on the skin, non comedogenic means that it will not block pores.
  • If you are prone to breakouts try to avoid using a night cream, as this might be too rich for the skin resulting in further breakouts.
Diet:
  • In the past year i have switched from eating white rice, pasta and bread to wholegrain and have noticed an incredible difference in my appearance. My skin has a glow to it and it is much clearer. Changing to wholegrain also helps if you suffer from a bloated stomach. I remember the days i would have to undo the top button from my jeans after i had a meal, well i have not done that in a long time.
  • Try replacing cows milk with goats milk. I know many friends that have found out they are allergic to dairy (mainly cows milk) and whose complexion has cleared ever since they have stopped drinking it. I don't drinks cows milk anymore and try to avoid all things which contain it, pizza, cheese, some dairy milk chocolate and biscuits to name a few. I still eat all of these things but i have replaced it with goats milk and cheese instead. After 10 years of trying so many products this is the top thing that has kept me looking healthy.
  • I don't drink fizzy drinks or soft drinks, they contain way too much sugar. I just drink water, i know it sounds odd but you get used to it after a while.
Beauty tip for keeping a clear complexion:
  • Make sure you always wash your face before going to bed, especially if you are wearing makeup. I know this is not practical if you have just got home from a night out, so keep some facial wipes, or baby wipes near your bed, and that way you can remove your makeup if you are too tired to wash it off. I prefer using baby wipes as they are gentler on the skin.
  • Go through your makeup bag. Many cosmetics have an expiry date, throw away any old makeup you have.
  • Do not keep mascaras for longer than 6 months, it's really unhygienic and can cause eye infections.
  • Don't share your makeup with friends, i know this can be difficult, especially if your best friend wants to use your lipstick and its hard to say no because you don't want to offend her, so just say you read it on my blog and you don't want to take chances, that way you won't sound rude at all.
  • Wash makeup brushes regularly. Mac cosmetics do a good cleaning liquid for brushes.
Keeping stressed skin under control:
  • Firstly most people believe in beauty sleep, i don't. Sleep is essential for health not for beauty! When i have had a lot of studying to do i have done 'all nighters' and this has not affected my complexion in any way.
  • Don't over do it with toners etc etc. Keep to a simple face wash and day cream. Skin is delicate you don't want to over expose it to chemicals. I currently use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Ceanser for normal to dry skin. This product is amazing! I use Lancome hydra zen as my daily moisturiser, this helps my skin stay fresh, gets rid of redness and just calms the skin really. It's also a great base for makeup.
  • My big beauty secret is SUDOCREM! This is a miracle cream, i can't live without it, its amazing in clearing the skin over night. It's usually used as a nappy rash cream for babies, but it is in fact an antiseptic healing cream. I use it every night before going to bed and i wake up with a clear face. You can also use it on other parts of your body. The good thing about this is it's relatively cheap and you can buy it in local superstores, boots and pharmacies. Only apply a thin layer though because its quite thick, and you only need a little bit.
I hope you have found this useful and if you have any questions just ask me. :)

I received this beautiful gift from Evermade.com. It's one of the most beautiful handmade prints I've ever seen. The detail is incredible and Paris is one of my favourite cities in the world. This piece would look stunning in a workspace / study and that's exactly where I'll be mounting mine.

Wilsonart at BlogTourNYC and ICFF

During my trip to New York City with Modenus I was wonderfully introduced to great sponsors of BlogtourNYC, one in particular being Wilsonart. Wilsonart are a sustainable family funded company which produces beautifully designed countertops and walls. They are renowned for revolutionising laminated surfaces. There surfaces are stunningly functional and transformative. What is especially attractive is the masculine take on some of the surfaces. There is such a wide variety of interestingly designed countertops for both the kitchen and bathroom. Not only do I love good design but I get overly excited when I'm introduced to new products.

During Blogtour we visited ICFF where Wilsonart had joined forces with the Industrial Design students of Appalachian State University to create a chair that celebrated the beauty, culture and history of the Appalachian region of North Carolina. The competition entailed students using laminate surfacing materials and it proved to be a good experience and engagement with creativity for these students. The overall winner, Samantha Lily, was awarded with a scholarship for their design. Below is the winning design, 'Blossom'

Here are some more wonderful designs and inspiration from Wilsonart.

TALA Bath & Body

“A palm, a cool fountain spring, a beam of bright morning starlight... simply heavenly.”

I received this beautiful gift set from the wonderful Mr. Steam whilst on #BlogTourNYC. I have to say I was overly excited when I opened the box and saw goodies enriched with Argan Oil. I've been using Argan Oil now for many years and it's been a miracle to use on my skin and hair. Being in my third month of pregnancy at the time I was in major need of some TLC and these products couldn't have arrived at a better time. The Argan Oil is 100% natural and I apply it everywhere. I also use it as a hair mask 30 minutes before I wash my hair. The box contains a Hamman Glove which softens and exfoliates the skin and is perfect to use with the Beldi Black Soap. What's even more exciting is the Rhassoul Lava Clay which comes in a powder form to mix with water. This mask is so versatile and can be used as a face mask, a mask for your skin, as an exfoliant or to cleanse your hair. How fabulous is that?!

The face cream is beautiful also and is best applied after a steamy shower or just before bed. You have a spa session in one box and it's such a luxurious treat! Tala Bath & Body is available at Mr. Steam

Rooms Made For You {British Gypsum}

The world of design is thriving and I always find it exciting when I'm introduced to new products. It's important to be aware and up to date with the latest materials used within interiors and I have a huge interest for new products and I'm always on the lookout for new materials and finishes to use in design. I recently went to a fabulous event hosted by British Gypsum where I came across three innovating new products which help transform any space into a multi functional area. Rooms Made For You have launched three new exciting products for the home. As an aspiring interior designer and a mother to a little boy I was instantly captivated by the Thistle Magnetic Plaster which transforms any wall into a magnetised surface. You may be asking, how does magnetic plaster work and how can it contribute to the versatility of a room? It provides freedom and flexibility to display your photographs, re-arrange anything you wish to display on a wall without causing damage because blu-tack and pins are not needed. It's perfect for children's bedrooms or playrooms where you can create an interactive wall, where they can play. It's also fabulous for a study as it provide the perfect base for your mood boards, notes and inspirational images. It's also interactive and combines well with specialist paints such as blackboard and whiteboard, making this perfect for a child's bedroom or play area.

Another great product is the Lifestyle Wall which is a new innovative plasterboard able to support an incredible 15kg of weight from only a single fixing which doesn't require drilling or wall plugs. It was pretty amazing witnessing the strength of this plasterboard and knowing it can support a large plasma television. This superbly gives total flexibility to any new house project.

The Silent Floor is equally as impressive. I was given a brief experience of how the Silent Floor system works and the quality of the sound insulation it's able to achieve. I was quite impressed at the difference. The Silent Floor is able to eliminate sound coming from other rooms in the house and impressively also mutes the base heard when playing loud music.

I'm so fascinated and intrigued with new products currently on the market and these three new exciting products from From Rooms Made For You is definitely a highlight of that!
